You know how most professional writers, when they're asked about where they get their ideas, say they don't really know, or something like that?

For those of us who *don't* make a living off writing, I was wondering where inspartion comes from. For me, at least, it's anywhere... Other stories, my mind, songs, posters, everyday life. Airplane trips.

What about the rest of you?

I'm wacky with my inspirations, they don't really make much sense. But here they are:

1) The rain. Life without rain is depressing, without damp earthy aromas and squishy shoes and angry skies. I really like the rain and ideas seem to pop into my mind whilst I'm frolicking through it (under the guise of walking my dog, of course. Wink )

2) Really good stories. One of the reasons I write fanfiction, because out there are those breath-taking awe inspiring stories that manage to show angst or enjoyment or any range of emotions, all in character. It just makes me want to write.

3) Dares. Dare me to write something, chances are I will. You might not get it until I stumble upon it and give it to you months late, (or in the case of a half finished fic in which Harry and Draco are set up as mafia bosses arguing over spandex suits, 2 1/2 years later), but I'll write it. Unless it's about broccoli. I can't stand broccoli, no matter how many times I'm dared to write it. (Yes, I have weird friends, no, we don't sacrifice vegetables in Satanic rituals and whatnot.)

4) Depression. I write my most soulful, angsty stuff when I'm just depressed out of my mind, enough to slit the wrists of the one who set me off. It doesn't happen often anymore, but I used to be one angry, depressed little teen. Most people were. Much bad poetry was produced, along with one of my favorite pieces.

5) Captivity. When forced to spend long periods of time alone, or with people who can't understand a damn word of English, or extended captivity with large amounts of family members, I write. It's my way of releasing pressure. I once wrote an entire song about Schroedinger's Cat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schroedinger's_cat) and how much he wanted to escape when I was in Rome, staying in an apartment room with my two younger siblings. My singing was enough to ward them off.

Yes, so I'm very, very abnormal, and if you bother me enough I will write songs and sing just to keep you from annoying me. What? Why's everyone backing away?

Oh, rain is fun! I write a lot of angsty-type things, and rain is very inspirational. We had a drought this summer, and I didn't write a single thing I really like until yesterday, when it rained (except on the several airplane rides I took, but that's different, I always write good stuff on planes). So I guess you're not that weird.

From extreme insane-ness caused by screaming random things at the top of your voice on the playground while playing screwed up roleplaying games that your friends invented. And/or hitting your head against the wall alot.
